Weddings in Cape Town — how we work locally

Cape Winelands weddings drive most of our Cape season — Nooitgedacht, Molenvliet, La Motte, Boschendal, Vrede en Lust, Cavalli, Waterford and Rickety Bridge are all regular ground. Constantia estates — Steenberg, Cellars-Hohenort, Alphen — offer intimate garden ceremonies with strong late-light portraits. Cape Point weddings at Cape Point Vineyards and Cape Farmhouse take the wind seriously; we plan couple portraits inland rather than on the exposed points. Atlantic Seaboard summer weddings work best with a first-look at the venue's private garden before the guests arrive because the southeaster shortens outdoor portrait time. Every Cape wedding is briefed on the shift from vineyard golden hour to lantern dinner and we plan the portrait window against the sun set-time to the minute.

On-site rhythm

Every Cape Town shoot is planned around light, wind and load-shedding — we brief the schedule the night before and confirm the call time with the agent or homeowner.

The editorial approach

Editorial does not mean staged — it means considered. We plan the light for the ceremony, we build a portrait shot list around the couple's own aesthetic references, and we spend time in the run-up to the wedding day understanding what actually matters to the couple: the moment the father sees the daughter walk in, the friend who is going to lose it during the vows, the grandfather's speech that everyone in the family already knows word-for-word. When we know what matters, we are in the right place at the right time on the day. The rest — the flat-lay of the rings, the flowers on the ceremony chairs, the light through the marquee — those we can plan around the moments.

Winelands and Highveld reality

Cape Winelands weddings — Nooitgedacht, Molenvliet, La Motte, Boschendal, Vrede en Lust — reward planning for the shift from vineyard golden hour to lantern-lit dinner. The light changes fast at 18:30 in December and we plan the couple portrait window to catch the last 40 minutes of it, not lose it to a speech. Highveld weddings — the gardens of Shepstone, the terrace at Molori, the marquees at private farms outside Broederstroom — need a summer-thunderstorm contingency. We arrive with the wet-weather plan already agreed with the planner so nobody is asking questions when the sky goes purple at 16:00. Winter Highveld weddings shoot beautifully with clean light and cold-crisp air — but we brief the couple that the portrait window will be shorter.

Gallery delivery, print and archive

Every wedding delivers a 48-hour sneak peek of 15 to 20 frames so the couple has something to share on Monday morning. The full gallery of 500 to 800 hand-edited photographs lands in six weeks via a private online gallery with print-shop integration, and on a USB heirloom drive delivered by hand where possible. The cinematic film lands at eight weeks. Raw files are not delivered — every keeper is edited, and the ones we do not deliver are missed-focus frames, blinks and duplicates that were never going to make the cut. Archive stays on our storage for five years, which covers most anniversary reprints and any legal need for identity confirmation from the day.
